How to focus on the what really matters.
Changing the corporate culture but with a focused approach.

Sticking with the same organization, people, rewards and control systems is not going to cause the corporation to become more innovative.

To make the best use of thought starters listed by Factor it is suggested that you first complete the Check-up. Having a sense of your company's performance by Factor, as derived from the 'Check-up', provides some indication of the magnitude of the problem. Performance in this case refers to the difference between Your 'Ideal' and Your' Reality'. If done with some thought, action then follows with a more focused , not random, approach to improving the culture for innovation.

Background

Most companies aspire to be innovative. Some companies announce specific targets such as goals for a percent of their annual volume to come from new products, some are less explicit.

Some companies deliberately decide not to be the first to innovate on the basis that they cannot or do not wish to assume the risk associated with being the first to enter a new market area, launch new product initiative or adopt a new business model.

In deciding to become innovative it is relatively easy to choose only a few of the characteristics most closely associated with innovative companies. It would, however, be prudent to try to capture the essence of a range of corrective actions rather than relying on just a few since the instruments chosen can act to reinforce one another. Not all instruments are appropriate and not all should be chosen. The choice of instrument depends on the perceived area of difficulty; the gap and the need for change.

Examining what other innovative companies have done to garner a reputation for innovativeness can be instructive by suggesting ideas for possible adoption by your company; always remembering that each corporation has its own culture profile.
